This Ghost Rider crash rig was challenging because the entire rig was controlled by a 6-foot high-pressure ratchet. To make the bike and rider travel approximately 50m down the 3 high tension span lines, the ram had to be reversed to a ratio of 24:1. This is a massive ratio, which was done was by creating a cradle that housed on the ram a system that was reeved to re12:1 and then a reverse 2:1 system which was placed up in the span line from a spreader bar to create the reverse 24:1 ratio. All up the development period was over 3 months, we worked in the gaps of filming other sequences. Placing the spreader bar into the rig meant cutting all 3 span lines, which was not well received. So I set about to do a mock rig using prusik loops on a scale rig to show the idea would work. This was also to get the naysayers to believe that cutting the very expensive lines was required.
