This is the sixth episode / installment of a series I’m starting on my channel that will consist of really simple live session style videos of artists performing their songs.
While music can be fun and games for some, it can just as easily be therapeutic for others. For Dallas by way of Rochester, New York native SpaceMan Zack, he grew up in a supportive and sporty family, yet they always pushed him to be an athlete and play football. While this was the path in life that they saw for him, Zack loved music unexplainably more than he ever loved sports, so he knew he needed to take his own path in life. This led him to joining the school choir rather than sports much to the chagrin of his family and the expectations they held for him.
While making this decision wasn’t easy, what made it even more difficult was his crippling anxiety and depression that he had dealt with throughout his entire life, illnesses that were so intense, he would even throw up daily due to the stressful moments he’d find himself in. Having nowhere to turn early on, never feeling comfortable in his own skin, and being pushed to be someone he wasn’t, Zack found himself in the midst of substance abuse issues at the ripe age of 14. At the same time, he would even paint his nails and hide them from his friends and family in order to avoid judgement and ridicule.
After already making some difficult decisions throughout his life, Zack decided to take another risk and start rapping in 2017, releasing his debut single “Cover Girl”, a song that showed him his first-ever glimpse of success in music and pushed him to continue moving forward and making a name for himself. Fast-forward to 2019, he released his single “Crying Tonight” which was his biggest song to date at the time, racking up over 2 million streams which truly helped Zack gain some traction online. From here, Zack kept the momentum rolling and in May of the same year, his track “Coke In the Bathroom” received even more attention through the popular YouTube collective TRASH which helped push the record to over 3 million Spotify streams alone which created more impetus than ever going into his following single “Drugs in the Rain” in the summer of 2019.
While 2022 might have been a difficult year for some, Zack made it his most productive year yet, wasting no time dropping his debut album WICKED. This played a major role in bringing in new audiences and even led to an official Twitch partnership that summer. At this point, there was no looking back as he finished the year strong with the release of his Nihilist EP in October, prepping fans for his sophomore album FUNFAIR! Which dropped at the top of 2022 as well, leading to a deal in March with United Talent Agency for booking representation.
As of today, Zack has garnered well over 225,000 monthly listeners, 22.15 million total streams, and 25.5 thousand Spotify followers, and the numbers only continue to skyrocket by the day. If you’re somehow not familiar with SpaceMan Zack quite yet, if you enjoy music from artists like the late Lil Peep, Poorstacy, or Kenny Hoopla, then Zack is definitely going to be right up your alley. With lyrical themes dealing with depression, anxiety, love and heartbreak, amongst others, Zack has something for every situation you might go through. At the end of the day, Zack’s goal is to help those who feel uncomfortable in their own skin realize that they’re not alone, and that there are others out there that understand and love them just the way they are.
