It is perfect for indoor or outdoor cooking, oven safe and can be passed down from generation to generation if properly cared for. Although there are several cleaning methods, in this video I will show you what I do and what works for me. Always store in a dry place. Get that beautiful versatile cookware in tip top shape!

Enjoy!

  1. I do the same thing 🙂
My collection is from my Aunt and my gramother. I have the same Dutch oven and I absolutely love it. I use some piece of my cast iron every day. I store mine in my microwave over my stove. I never use the microwave anyway. Lol

  2. Thanks for your very thorough explanation on how to care for cast iron. I have some pieces from my Mom who passed 7 years ago so it is very precious to me!

  3. Love my cast iron. I’m 61 years old and learned many years ago from my mother to wash just like you did and I also put my pans over a flame to dry them before reseasoning them. My hubby even does it when he washes dishes.

  4. I love cast iron cook ware. I got a dutch oven that was my gramas. I also have a cast iron pot with a rolled steal handle its really old and was my Great Grampas "hamburger pot". I do have more modern pieces as well but i love them all. Thanks for the great video.

  5. I feel better about taking dish detergent to the pan as I've not seen this done in other demos. I'm getting out "Grandma June's" pan this weekend and welcoming it back into the family. 🙂 Thanks for making this video! 🌹

  6. I love my cast iron pans. I have used cast iron for years even on campfires. Cast iron is my preferred pan.

  7. I cook almost exclusively with my cast iron with the exception, like you, of stainless steel pots. I do the same care that you do with the exception of shortening instead of oil. I had oil pool and become sticky on a skillet once and since then I keep a tub of shortening and an old kitchen cloth that I use to condition my pans after use.
I have more cast iron that a person should, which I plan on passing to my kids. I started reconditioning cast iron for a while but I made myself stop because I just have way to much cast iron😳 but my kids benefit from my obsession!
I do enjoy watching videos where people cook in cast iron.

  8. Thank you for making this video, it is interesting to see how other people care for their cast iron. Except for the cleaning apparatus, we do the same things. I use a stainless steel chainmail scrubber made just for cast iron. Cleans crusty bits and doesn't remove the seasoning. My cast-iron skillets hang on a rack but my two Le Creuset pans sit out where I can enjoy them as well as being handy for cooking. They're 35 years old and the one I use the most is nearly worn down to the cast iron on the inside of the pan but it is the best for stews, jams and jellies. Apparently you can mail your pans to Le Creuset in France for re-enamelling but I can't begin to imagine how costly that would be. The funniest thing I ever heard when someone was 'down' on cast iron is that they felt the iron-enhancing benefits would be gone after more than ten or twenty years. Those heirloom pans just keep on giving, giving, giving and enriching the nutrition of the food cooked in them. Would you consider doing a video on the different ways you use your cast iron bread pan? I'm interested in getting one but have so many other bread pans that it seems frivolous at this point unless someone could convince me otherwise. Lol! Again, thank you for the great video. I bet you have helped so many people stop being afraid of their cookware. Good for you!!

  9. Glad I’m watching this I’m 64 years old and I have my grandmother s and some of my mothers cast iron which I love and proud to have them

  10. I'm so glad to see more people making cast iron content – Thank you!! I just started using it seriously last year, and now I'm hunting up old pieces to restore. It's so satisfying bringing an heirloom back to its former glory!
