It's sad that you got barred from using your bot on that exchange. Also, I agree that you don't need a high-end rig, or to use C++.
My crypto trading bot makes ~100 profitable trades per day focusing on 1-15 minute candlesticks, and I wrote it in Python. I've been developing it for more than 2 years, and there's still a fair amount of inefficiencies I haven't prioritized improving yet because what I have works adequately. I have a "server" dedicated to running it along with hosting a dashboard I made for it, which is simply a laptop I have at home whose lid I keep closed, and I VNC or SSH in as needed, doing the actual development on my main computer.
I'm not located near the API host, and I'm not concerned about receiving information and making trades as quickly as possible, especially since most of my orders are limit orders which I place at certain price levels in advance.
So yes, anyone can do it, and you don't need to work at a trading firm to get into algo trading.
