Futures dont matter. There is a base cost of production for commodities and the fed cant push lower than utility demand for spot. For metals that results in a premium surcharge on spot. In btc case, cost of production increases so quickly that traders are incentivized to arb futures gaps or risk permanently decoupling from spot, which creates a decentralized derivatives market to meet the demands of futures that track spot "premium."
