The former famous painter Frenhofer lives quietly with his wife in his countryside residence in the French Provence. When the young artist Nicolas visits him with his girlfriend Marianne, Frenhofer decides to start working again on a painting called ‘La Belle Noiseuse’, which he gave up a long time ago. And he wants Marianne as a model. The ensuing creative process will change the characters’ lives. It will become a struggle for truth and meaning, and the question about the limits of art will arise.

It is quite unique for a globally recognized mainstream actress like Emmanuelle Beart to have appeared completely nude for major part of the movie. She truly represents feminine beauty in its most elegant and artistic form. It is a pleasure to watch her unrestricted beauty.
Somehow movies about painters I find so interesting, the search for meaning and conviction in their art, trying to make a picture speak the emotions and personality of the character inside the human soul. More than that, the story hints at the intricacies of a romantic relationship which for some reason french movies seem to be able to do so well.
It was so good to see more from Emmanuelle Beart, the actress from a heart in winter who has, among other attributes, quite stunning eyes.
If you're young and impatient, you're probably not mature enough to appreciate this dramatic work of art.
The beautiful trouble maker …?? The only treble and trouble is the story n film.

Lots of naysayers here but this was an excellent movie. Too stretched, true, but easily overcome by skipping conversation-less scenes with the repeated use of the forward button. Nothing is lost and the final denouement is wonderful. First-class actors and acting and a beautiful setting.
