*MICROSCOPE I used in the video! – https://amzn.to/2WWIRwO

Hey guys, so this video is so so so hard for me to upload. When I tell you that I have been racking my brain over this for the last 24 hours, I mean it. I Really REALLY like Jaclyn Hill and am so excited for her in her endeavors, but unfortunately I have a less than positive review to give these today.

I bought these myself on Launch day and also received PR. I bought all 20 of them and the total was $330

When i was unboxing and looking at each of the lipsticks, I noticed that what people were saying was true, that there were some issues with the outer appearance of the actual lipstick themselves. Upon further inspection, I noticed fibers, hairs, beads, and pitting in a bunch of the lipsticks. I decided to put them under a microscope to see what everything looked like up close, and I was SHOCKED. The colors are all stunning and wonderful, but unfortunately my review doesn’t contain much in terms of the formula and colors, but more of the issues that people are experiencing and showing my personal lipsticks at length and detail. I also melt down one of my chunky lipsticks and break it apart to see if the chunks run all the way through.

I KNOW this is FAR too in depth, trust me, I don’t ever want to be the person to go THIS in depth with LIPSTICKS. But because of the amount of complaints that I have seen, and confirming the quality (or lack there of) with my own personal lipsticks, I thought it would be good to just say “whatever, lets do this” and go SUPER nitty gritty into the formula of these.

I do NOT think that Jaclyn was aware of the quality of these before them going out, I think that these lipsticks are either OLD OR the lab has ZERO quality control and that they are contaminated (which is what I truly think happened) I really feel like the lab did Jaclyn dirty. I think they released less than poor quality products and now she and her brands reputation are paying the price.

Here is my review. I am sorry for all of the negativity.

  2. I remember watching this back in 2019 and coming back to it now, the statement from JC that "in rare circumstances, less than 0,1%, there have been complaints" doesn’t make sense to me at all. This product was sold out within seconds, meaning that only a fraction of people actually could buy the lipsticks and that compared with the amount of people complaining about the lipsticks doesn’t make sense. Like for example 20.000 bought the product and there have been thousands of tweets from those who bought them, hundreds of tweets with multiple thousand, some multiple hundred thousands of likes, meaning that the ratio of buyers vs complaining buyers is extremely narrow.

  3. why would i spend a shit ton of money for defective lipsticks in mediocre colors when i could go down the street to CVS and get a better quality lipstick from covergirl

  4. Cut to 2022 she’s saying that this wasn’t that bad and that it was only 2% of her lipsticks that where like that probably because she’s going to launch new lipsticks 🙄 Jaclyn is the worst business women I swear

  5. OMG. I desperately hope I am never the receiver of a mycelium stick. 😭😭 Horrifying! Ethical, or just business savvy companies , would immediately get this product off the shelves and out of the hands of consumers. There may always be some backlash when brands produce products/cosmetics with quality control issues or unsafe ingredients, and the only way to adequately manage this is to take responsibility, apologize, and do better. That's the only way to secure trust in a brand. This is life; unplanned for things will happen, new studies and information will come out, but not acknowledging that and correcting it is pretty gross. It prioritizes profit and ego over people and integrity. The capitalist way.

  6. Hi so I’m watching this YEARS later because this issue was brought up among the “pink sauce” debacle happening now lol.

I am a wax caster and mold maker and while I have never made any lipsticks, I do have some thoughts as someone who has made many wax casts, is experienced, and knows the behavior of casting and wax that may have caused these many issues.

I think a lot of people are looking at these lipsticks, which were absolutely contaminated, in the wrong direction. This is NOT an issue of debris at the top of the lipstick from improper handling after they were cast. The hairs and beads are imbedded and the bubbles show that this issue happened before and during casting, NOT after they set.

Lipsticks are cast upside down. That means that the top of the lipstick is actually the BOTTOM of the hole in the mold. Bubbles in wax pour casting are typically caused by three things, water in the mold, dust or other particles in the mold, or a mold that is too cold while the pouring wax is too hot.

Molds are usually stored with open casting holes facing up and covered. If I had to guess the issue here was super OLD molds that were put to the side in storage for a year, built up dust and possibly rocky particles from the storage in the factory, then a RUSHED AF casting.

My guess is the bottoms of the lipsticks were checked before casting and the lab saw how dusty and dirty the bottoms of the canisters were and tried to sloppily wash them out. This left the bottoms of the molds wet, cold, and maybe still dusty. I would guess these hairs, as best, might have been from towels used to dry up the excess moisture that left behind those little hairs only at the tip.

The cold water or dust is the #1 most likely culprit of the bubbling. It also could have kept certain butters from melting BUT that is also a sign imo of super rushed mixing of the ingredients. The hairs are either from towels to dry the improperly prepared dirty molds or……. Something worse that fell into the old molds during storage.

Long story short— with the bubbling AND the hairs embedded, this is definitely not a handling issue with gloves. This is most likely, AT BEST, a case of molds that were totally unsanitary and unprepared for casting lipsticks, especially lipsticks sold en masse.

  7. This forever ruined my relationship with lipstick even though I didn't actually purchase one of them. But nowadays whenever I do purchase a lipstick I always take a microscopic look at it first T.T

  8. Wow. 3 years late. I heard about this a few years ago, watch a few videos, moved on. but today….IDK why….felt like investigating I guess….. maybe just board watching this and the microscope footage… I AM NOT AN EXPERT ….but I do work for a company that produces products. The building I work in, is a plant. I am in purchasing, not quality control. I have seen our quality documents and am aware of some of our quality procedures. One of the products we make, is food grade. I am responsible for purchasing the white cotton knit gloves, our packers wear to PACK our goods. In our plant, these packers are in a different room than the machines that make our food grade products. We do our quality control in house. It is VERY expensive equipment, with many people in that department. It is standard practice, here in this location, with this certain company, that if WE, the manufacturer, deems our products are out of specification, they move to a holding area. In this hold area, the entire batch is gone through with fine tooth comb. Yes, every product we create, is batched, or palletized and given a label with a barcode. On that label are details about the plant and location, the production line the product was made on, what date it was manufactured, what shift tested and packed it and much more. Each production line has build sheet and sample product for comparison allowing our employees an example of what is acceptable and what is not. I also purchase the knit cotton gloves for our mold department. The mold team wears these gloves when the molds on the machines have to be changed to accommodate different products. The molds have VERY precise edges which makes for sharp corners. While the production floor is climate controlled, the warehouse is not. The warehouse also has a finite amount of space. In a pinch, it is not uncommon to store palletized product in a trailer, like a tractor trailer. Which is also, NOT, climate controlled. The type of products we create, are stable, even in a trailer, in the middle of the summer, in the south. This is mostly industry standard depending on the product being produced.
I have a few questions. WHY…would ANY company file for a new trademark, essentially changing the DBA name and the brand, less than a month prior to their first product release? Why would one release documents certifying good manufacturing practices dated 2017 citing a company that didnt exist prior to 2019? Why would one submit product samples for testing, not weeks, but days, prior to, during and after product release? Why would Mathew Chase Gilbert sue her for copyright infringement, fraud in the inducement, fraudulent misrepresentation, and unjust enrichment? IMO-She knew what she was doing. She knew document dates had been changed, cited in the lawsuit Mathew Chase Gilbert filed in 2015. She knew she was paying him $10 for her "trademark JH". She knew the quality of the lipsticks in 2017. She knew she wanted to recoup the money from them by creating the elaborate packaging in 2017. She knew how to deal with the backlash on social media. Oh, she knew. I also dont have 5.67 million YT subscribers either. Last fact I will cite. I will never buy or possess anything Jaclyn Hill.

  9. So.. I’m just getting my make up collection built back up cause I divorced my husband and he threw about $5000 in make up away when I was moving out , and I have never heard of this Jaclyn Jill issue. It’s insane. Thank god I never owned anything of hers. But now I’m addicted to watching every single video made about it 😂😂 and now I can’t bring myself to try her lipsticks. Ever lol

  10. I think they must also be sheering sheep in the lab! I mean I wouldn't make wool coats and lipstick in the same factory but clearly these people thought it was a good idea.

  11. Even If these lipsticks didn't have any of that shit in them I still wouldn't buy them knowing I can get the same result from a maybelline lipstick

  12. I checked her site out of curiosity (even though it's been years) and there are no lipsticks anymore. Gloss, liner, balm, scrub, but no lipsticks.

  13. I am late to the party. I heard about this years ago, but never watched reviews of it until now.

  14. Watching in 2022 and obviously with the pandemic theres been a huge shift in the attitude towards sanitation can you even IMAGINE if this happened now?? Like Kristi wouldnt have even done a try on of the good ones knowing they were made in the same place that produced the other ones

  15. $300 for lipstick is outrageous and at no point should 20 lipsticks be 300 fucking dollars! Spending $300 in food I can understand!

  16. I have no idea why people forgave her for a health hazard that she wholeheartedly denied. It’s disgusting asf

  17. You're hilarious 😂 I'm here visiting from the true crime community. I'm in the medical field- I want to see this stuff under a microscope. Sole reason- I'm too lazy to wear make-up, so sorry 🤷‍♀️

  18. I know this is from forever ago but it looks like the dye for casting the liquid when poured in wasnt clean and had lots of lint. No lab should be that flinty though. Yikes!

  19. Watching in 2022 and her new launch "complexity connection " isn't great. The tink isn't too bad, but the concealer is like wall spackle and dries super fast and is cakey… another crap launch.

  20. Watching this again, I really think your theory is correct. The brand doesn’t sell the lipstick bullets like this (as far as I can tell) anymore and her packaging now says “Jaclyn”….. it’s definitely suspish

  21. Anybody else watching this in 2022? This is probably in the top 5 makeup review videos of all time. I'm not even sure why I enjoy rewatching it but I do.

  22. i’m sorry but how could she launch a product without checking the final result super in detail like even just one glimpse before shipment or on the first batch would’ve saved soooooo much time/ money out into them

  23. I've double checked she is trying again with liquid lipstick instead of the ones she made last time.

  24. We are shaming lipsticks for having large pores and hair, I though natural beauty is the mood of 2022 🤣
